Very Good Design, Could Improve May 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is an excellent product for roasters who want to crack their coffee beans old school. I've roasted beans (even peaberry) in it over coals and it does very well with batches up to 3 pounds. You can roast 5 pounds in the basket but be prepared for a long wait to the first crack depending upon your roasting temperature. I could suggest one design improvement in the lid. Currently, the lid is attached with a spring and a spring-hinge. You must remove the rotisserie rod to open the basket. It may be better to use two pull-pressure springs. That way, you could just release the springs, loosen the thumb-screw and pull the lid straight off. The four prongs are strong enough to hold the basket in place to pour and de-chaff. There are a lot of positives to this product. I built my own fire-roaster that can roast 5lbs of high quality beans for under $200.00.
